Resheeting of Northwest Point Road
Increased traffic owing to the construction work at the Detention Centre has finished. With the operation of the Detention Centre, Northwest Point Road still has significant traffic volumes. Part of Northwest Point Road was realigned in early 2008 and the section from LB4 Lookout and the Detention Centre will be resheeted later this year.
Plant Hill Road Construction
Plant Hill Road provides access off Phosphate Hill Road to the Highlands Estate subdivision. Construction of this road with kerb, footpath and bitumen sealing is planned for 2008. An invitation to tender has been issued for this project.

Ethel Beach Road Upgrade
Ethel Beach is part of the East Coast Beaches on Christmas Island. Ethel Beach Road provides access to Ethel Beach and Ethel Beach Boat Ramp. Upgrade of this unsealed road with bitumen seal is planned for 2008.

Jalan Pantai Roundabout Reconstruction
Jalan Pantai is the main road through the Port area, the village of Kampong Melayu and Flying Fish Cove Foreshore. Jalan Pantai Roundabout is the intersection of Murray Road, Gaze Road and Jalan Pantai at the Port area. Reconstruction of the road pavement in segmental pavers is planned for 2008.

Quarry Road Extension
Quarry Road provides access off Phosphate Hill Road to the Light Industrial Area. With the expansion of the Light Industrial Area in 2009 (LIA Stage 2), Quarry Road will be extended to provide access to the increased area.

Quarry Road Extension Drawings
Murray Road BikewayThe Shire is building a dual purpose path (pedestrian and bicycle) along Murray Road from Drumsite to Settlement. The Murray Road Bikeway will complement the proposed Walking Trail Project. Work has begun on the Murray Road Bikeway at Drumsite from Christmas Island Phosphate’s (CIP) Workshop to the Christmas Island District High School. |

Linkwater RoadLinkwater Road was closed in recent years owing to the poor condition of the road. The Attorney General’s Department (AGD) is investigating ways to re-open Linkwater Road and is consutling with Main Roads WA and the Shire. The Shire has received a preliminary design for the upgrade of Linkwater Road from AGD. Depending upon the availability of funding, the Shire expects AGD to undertake the upgrade of Linkwater Road in 2008 or 2009. |
